Vasectomy Reversal
Male infertility is more common than we think. 1.2 million men every year face the challenge of overcoming male infertility! A male reason for infertility can be found in 50% of all infertility cases. The great news is that the male infertility factor can often be eliminated or minimized to maximize a man’s reproductive capacity. For example, if the plumbing that carries sperm is blocked, a microsurgical procedure to fix the blockage may get your sperm flowing again. If there are signs of infections, antibiotics may be just what you need! Read more >>
Sperm Aspiration & Retrieval
Sperm retrieval is reserved for the most severe cases of male infertility. The most common reason for sperm retrieval is when men have no sperm in their ejaculate (azoospermia). This can be due to a blockage in the plumbing (ex. Vasectomy) when the “sperm factory” or testicle is producing healthy amounts of sperm. This is “Obstructive Azoospermia.” The other situation is when the plumbing is wide open but sperm production is not occurring properly. This is “Non-Obstructive Azoospermia.” The success rates of sperm retrieval mostly depend on how well sperm are being produced. Read more >>
Azoospermia (No Sperm)
“Azoospermia” is the term used by many docs to describe when no sperm are seen in a man’s ejaculate. It is discovered in 5 - 10% of men who are seen in an infertility clinic. Most couples ask whether this automatically means that there is no chance of having kids. The answer is that just because sperm are not seen in the ejaculate does NOT mean that sperm may not be found somewhere farther upstream. While azoospermia is a real reproductive challenge, a careful fertility evaluation that includes a history, a physical exam, a hormonal profile, genetic studies and possibly a biopsy will help your male fertility specialist define what your chances are of having your own biological children and the best way of helping you get there. Varicocele
A varicocele is the most commonly identifiable lesion seen in men with male infertility that can be surgically corrected. A varicocele is when the veins that drain your testicle become enlarged and engorged. It is very similar to the varicose veins that some people have on the back of their legs. A varicocele is a very common finding. While it is present in 15% of all men in the community at large, it is found in 40% of men who present with infertility. Dr. Kuang’s top priority is to “empower you with education” about your reproductive choices. Read more >>
Klinefelter’s Syndrome
As our understanding of Klinefelter's Syndrome (KS) grows, urologists and male fertility specialists will become more involved with their reproductive care. With an estimated frequency of 1:500-1:1000 of live deliveries, Klinefelter's is the most common numerical chromosomal abnormality in men. Read more >>
Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis affects an estimated 30,000 people in the U.S. Moreover, there are more than 10 million carriers of the cystic fibrosis genes (1 in 20 to 25 people are carriers). Modern medicine is helping many of these patients reach adulthood. The average life expectancy is now 37 years old in 2006 when it was only 8 years old in the 1970’s. As more of these patients reach a reproductive age, it is important to address the issue of fertility. A careful history, physical examination and genetic assessment of you and your partner will all be critical in providing you with options. Read more >>

Semen Analysis
A careful quantitative and qualitative examination of your semen is the foundation upon which your male infertility evaluation is built upon. The volume, the viscosity, the color and the pH of the semen is determined. Then using a microscope, a drop of the semen is examined to count all the sperm within it. This will determine the sperm concentration, then we will see how many are moving which is the sperm motility. Finally, the sperm will be assessed for how normal they look which is called the sperm morphology. Read more >>
Oligospermia (too few sperm)
Having too few sperm can be one of the most challenging fertility issues. A careful evaluation and understanding of you and your partner's reproductive needs will be critical to help you find the best reproductive option for you. Read more >>
