At this year’s 2010 national American Urologic Association’s meeting in San Francisco, California, Hinz et al. from Germany performed an elegant study looking at sperm production in the testicles of men undergoing vasectomy reversal. They found that all men in this study had normal amounts of sperm production (the longest obstructive interval was 27 years, and the oldest man was 63 years old). Moreover, a man’s age and the number of years since the vasectomy did not impact whether sperm was being made.
Bottomline: Based on this study, men seeking vasectomy reversal should feel more reassured that they are still making sperm even if they are older or its been a long time since the vasectomy.
